A Legend!
While on our house hunting trip to North Carolina a few months ago, a friend of mine suggested I try Cheerwine for a true North Carolina experience. The label claims legendary status? I wasn't even aware of it even after several summers in the Tar Heel State. My husband and I grabbed a bottle in the airport of course and I have since brought home a case of the diet version. We were not blown away, but entirely intrigued. Most notably by the Red Velvet-y color. Did RC and Red Pop have a fling we didn't know about?? My Faygo familiar friends will know what I'm talking about.
The true test, however came from my boys. My little adventurers. These kids were born military brats and God prepared them well. They love the tradition of immersing ourselves in everything each place has to offer. We let them try a bottle when we first arrived but during today's outing they spotted a bottle of Cheerwine and asked, nay, begged for it. "It's a legend!" they claimed! So they can read labels.
We grabbed it and sat down. My oldest asked me, "Why is it a legend?"
I flubbed the response on the spot but as I thought about it for the rest of the afternoon I came to the conclusion that it is because it is just one of those things that makes a place what it is. Exactly why travelling, and living, many different places weaves a tapestry of sensory-rich memories.
Cheers to the Cheerwines everywhere.
Artificial ingredients and all.
